Different Clothing Influences a Person's Behavior
“People behave differently when they wear different clothes” is the prompt given to us ESL students to write about. Initially, I agree that certain types of clothes affect one’s behavior. However, all the topic sentences I try to come up does not answer the thesis. Therefore, I believe that wearing different clothes is not a factor to how a person behaves.
I asked my friends and relatives regarding about this prompt and surprisingly all of them agreed to this prompt. Sheridan said, “Yes, because when I dress sexy, I act sexy, otherwise I am quiet and tame.” This state’s that a person chooses what to wear on a particular day base on how he/she feels. A person wears sexy clothes if he/she wants to feel and act sexy. A person wears comfortable clothes when he/she wants to feel comfortable. A person who is comfortable acts more sociable. A person wears conservative or provocative clothes if he/she wants to feel and act conservative or provocative. Therefore, it is not these sexy, comfortable, conservative, provocative clothes that dictate the behavior of the person but his/her feelings.
My friend Ronnel says, “Yes because certain colors affect your mood.” It maybe true that certain color is associated to a particular mood such as blue for peace of mind, red for romance, black for anger or sorrow and white for solemnity. During Valentine’s Day, red is the color used to set the mood of romance. People become more romantic with the color red. Spa centers use blue paint because the color is relaxing to the eyes and sets the mood for peace of mind. People tend to relax with hues of blue. A person who attends a viewing of a dead person usually wears black or white to signify sorrow or solemnity. People who protest usually wears black to signify anger. Mass rallies often wear black and when they see people wearing the same color, it increases their morale because they feel that they all share the same mood. Therefore it is not these blue, red, black or white clothes that affect a person’s behavior but rather the color that set’s the mood.
My cousin Liezel said, “Yes, because people wear different clothes on different occasions and different occasions call for different behaviors.” When a person goes to his work or attends a corporate meeting, he/she usually wears a business suit and act professionally. When a person goes to a night club, he/she will usually wear party clothes and act like there is not tomorrow. When a person attends a pajama party, he/she wears pajama and enjoy the night with his/her friends. Therefore it is not the business suit, party clothes, pajama that affects a person’s behavior but the occasion one will attend to.
My classmate Marieta said, “Yes, because the society is judgmental when it comes to your physical appearance and we are always subjected to its scrutiny.” Every morning, a person’s routine may include brushing teeth, drinking coffee, reading the newspaper, eating breakfast and taking a bath and definitely picking clothes to wear. All of us are individuals who are the building blocks of what we call the “society”. As individuals, we constantly seek the acceptance and approval of the society we belong. These acceptance and approval maybe in the form of compliment or respect. A person chooses clothes to wear base on what he/she thinks is presentable, respectable and dignified to the society. In elite society, a “socialite” wants to be accepted by wearing only expensive and luxurious clothes. Models act as fashion icons by wearing the latest trends because the society expects them to be the trendsetters. A person who wants to be attractive in the society and liked by the opposite sex wears clothes that will compliment their body structures. For example, guys wear muscle shirts while girls wear mini skirts. Therefore, it is not these expensive, luxurious, latest trends, muscle shirts and mini skirts that affects a person’s behavior but the society they belong to.
It may seem that different clothes influence a person’s behavior because they are worn for specific reasons such as how does one feels that day, what mood one would want to set, the occasion one will attend to, and the society one belongs to. I conclude that different clothes do not influence a person’s behavior but all the specific reasons stated above.
